Hi, Olen -- I have missed seeing you with Peggy in the dining room.  You were both so sweet and we enjoyed visiting with you when we could.  God speed you comfort.  Thoughts and prayers to you and your family.  Donna and mom (Elizabeth).

I have been in this family for 40 years married to the “Motorcycle Guy” as their neighbors call him.  Peggy had her opinions right up until the end.  A few months ago, Darryl had a beard and I asked her if she liked it and she responded with a resounding NO.  
My children remember their Grandmother playing with clay, building a bird nest complete with a bird to rubbing their back when they were sick.  When she first went to the home, Derek stopped by and helped her make a beaded necklace that she wore proudly and told everyone her grandson helped her make it.
A month ago she asked Darryl and I if we could get her a plane ticket to OK, because it wouldn't take too long to get to there that way.  She decided she could stay with Karen and then she could take her to the McLaughlin Reunion.  We told her we would look into it.  If she could have possibly made it, she sure would have been there.
The last Sunday we saw her, I told her the Broncos were playing and she said to turn them on.  As soon as we did she wanted to know the score and looked up at the TV and said “There's Manning” and sure enough it was him taking off his helmet.  We had to look twice but sure enough it was him.
To quote my Son-in-Law, James MacIndoe:
“Olen and Peggy Dunnington were married for 65 years. That's almost three times as long as I've been alive.
I came into the picture recently, but not too late to bask in the warmth and patience of their love.
Today we say goodbye, and damn it if that doesn't hurt. But we can also honor by loving, and by being kind, gracious, humble people.
We can carry on because we've been shown how.”

Whenever we played with clay, Grandma always made a bird sitting in a nest. Her favorite colors were pink and yellow, and she had a fondness for delicate things: flowers, hand-sewn gifts, and knick-knacks of glass and porcelain. I recently learned that one of the most resonant lessons her mother taught her was that femininity was something to be valued. Grandma, who was girly to the core, took this to mean she was to be agreeable, nurturing, and sensitive to the emotions of others. Anyone who knew her can confirm that she was all of those things and more -- the “more” part being what matters most to me when I think about my own perception of womanhood, and the impact Grandma has had on it. 
Grandma was strong. She was tough. She worked tirelessly, every day, to make sure her family was well-cared for, often sacrificing her own needs for the sake of others. She would suffer through anything to ensure her loved ones' happiness, and she'd never, even for moment, feel sorry for herself. She wouldn't complain. The amount of self-discipline she had was baffling, as was her work ethic and her ability to remain composed when it would have been so easy to lash out. 
The strength she had -- her bravery and determination -- that's what femininity is to me. Grandma's life was guided by steadfast principles she set for herself at an early age, and she protected them fiercely, letting no one take them away from her. She achieved her dream of having a husband and family by knowing exactly what she wanted and making darn sure she got it. That kind of courage, I've learned, is an inherent aspect of femininity. Grandma taught me that “girly” does not mean “weak.” “Girly” means “bold.” 
When Grandma made those clay birds in their nests, I didn't realize at the time how reflective they were of her own character. They were cute, yes, but they were also powerful providers and guides, devoting all of their energy to the eggs they sheltered. It's no wonder she was drawn to them; the thing about birds, you see, is that they're soft and hardy at the same time -- maternal and stalwart. Grandma's brand of femininity was complex, and she, like a bird, was led by an instinctive sense of duty that allowed her family to feel secure. She loved us all very much, and always did whatever needed to be done to make sure we felt that love. It's a love we're still feeling now, and will continue to feel for the rest of our lives, long after she's flown away, because love is Grandma's legacy.

We are so sorry to hear that Aunt Peg has passed away.  She was a sweet lady, and we will miss her very much.  Olen, Darryl, Sherry, and families, you have our deepest sympathy.

Hi Olen, and Darryl and Sherry, I am Marlene, the oldest who lived next door to you on Thatcher. Wish I had known you still lived there, I would have come to visit. I live in the Florence area, near Canon City now,  My condolences to y'all , Marlene Moore Rothgeb,

I am so sorry to hear of Peggy's passing.  I remember her kindness when I was a little girl.  You lived in the white house that used to be ours but I don't remember living in it. God Bless you all as you mourn your loss.
