Patsy Kate Booth was born and raised in Beaumont, Texas. In 1974, she migrated to Colorado’s upper Rio Grande where she owned and operated an outfitting business, La Garita Llamas for twenty years, sharing her love of the wilderness. She served on the international board of the Rio Grande/Rio Bravo Coalition for twelve years. After graduating from Adams State College, she taught in the San Luis Valley public schools for many years before retiring and moving to Pueblo in 2010. She was a graduate of Naropa and served as a psychotherapist and somatic play therapist for children at the YWCA in Pueblo. She served on the board of Pueblo’s Heritage Museum. She attended Pueblo’s Wet Mountain Sangha for fifteen years.
Kate embraced life and the great outdoors in many forms - gardening, hiking, white-water rafting, and sailing. She was a teacher, a musician, a poet, an author, an artist, an animal lover, and a fierce advocate both for children and the environment. The Rio Grande River was her passion, described beautifully in her book, The River that Binds Me.
Kate is survived by William Ross Martin, son; Sally Loraine Fulton, sister; George Bertram Booth Jr., brother; Jeffrey Thomas Booth, Brian Timothy Booth, and Andrew Powers Booth, nephews. Her absence will be felt by her beloved friends across Colorado and beyond. Although her absence will be felt by many, her presence will remain forever in the hearts of her family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Pueblo Heritage Museum or Pueblo's YWCA would be appreciated.
