Ruth Lavonne Ketchum (Ewing), age 90, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2025, in Pueblo, Colorado. Born on November 3, 1934, in Stonington, Colorado, Ruth lived a long and meaningful life marked my dedication to her work, deep love for her family, and adventurous spirit.
Ruth built a distinguished career at CF&I, where she worked for many years before retiring from Oregon Steel. As a supervisor in the Computer Department, she was known for her commitment to excellence and her strong leadership. Ruth treasured the friendships she formed with colleagues throughout her long career and took great pride in the work she accomplished.
Beyond her professional life, Ruth was a woman of many passions. A voracious reader, she found joy and inspiration in books throughout her life. Her love of travel took her across the globe-from the ancient wonders of China to the cultural richness of Europe and countless destinations across the United States. Among all her travels, Alaska held a unique place in her heart. She carried special memories from each journey and delighted in sharing stories of her adventures.
At the center of Ruth’s world was her family. She was deeply devoted to them and always ready with a helping hand or a listening ear. Her presence was a constant source of strength and warmth. Ruth’s influence on her grandchildren was profound; she played an active role in their lives and celebrated their accomplishments with pride.
She is lovingly remembered by daughters Robin Phillips (Lee) and Jill Anderson (Dennis), as well as son-in-law Jeff Zangaris and sister Margaret Larson. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Joey Perrone (Jenni), Dr Madison Miranda, Rene Anderson, Denise Anderson, Dr. Ryan Anderson (Susie), Maggie Lape (Bryan); along with numerous great-grandchildren who were fortunate to kn ow her love.
Ruth was preceded in death by her beloved husband Richard Ketchum; daughter Linda Zangaris; granddaughter Jennifer Perrone; and grandson Jordan Miranda. Also gone before her: sisters Laverne Westphal and Emma Everhart; as well as brothers Gerald Ewing and Robert Ewing.
