

Sylvia Joan (Martinez) Hayden was born August 1st, 1949, in Walsenburg, Colorado to Juan Silvano Martinez and Gertrude Marie (Trujillo) Martinez. She was welcomed into the family by her seven older siblings and followed by five younger brothers and sisters. Sylvia attended St. Mary High School in Walsenburg, Colorado, and graduated May 26th, 1967. Sylvia married Ronald G. Hayden in 1969 and together they welcomed three sons into the world, Jon Brandon (1969), Jeromy Jude (1970) and Jason Edward (1974).
Throughout her life, Sylvia most notably worked as a florist in various flower shops throughout Pueblo and joined her sisters in working at a family flower shop, “Twisted Willow” in Colorado Springs. Upon retirement, Sylvia opted to spend time with her family and grandchildren. Her role as a grandma brought much love and joy to her life as she watched Lauren and Evan grow from infancy to adulthood.
Sylvia’s passions were immeasurable, and she greatly enjoyed spending time in the mountains. Her family’s memories of mushroom hunting, fishing, and picking wildflowers & chokecherries will always hold a special place in their hearts. Sylvia found joy in the art of cooking and could often be found in the kitchen. If you had the privilege of tasting her meals, you would know that her recipes were made with love and dedication and enjoyed by all.
Friends and family remember Sylvia as a Simple, Creative, Loving, Adventurous woman who undoubtedly influenced the lives around her each day. Her character brought those around her a mix of spirited humor, wisdom, and tenacity. Sylvia’s legacy will continue to live on each day through her family and loved ones. Whether it be in Jeromy’s love for the mountains and nature, Lauren’s love for cooking and flowers, or Evan’s hazel eyes and spontaneous adventures, pieces of her will remain with us always.
Sylvia is preceded in death by; her parents, Juan & Gertrude Martinez; her sons; Jon Hayden & Jason Hayden; brothers; John “Abe” Martinez, Gerard Martinez; and sisters; Edna Maher, Theresa Livingston. Sylvia is survived by her son Jeromy (Stephanie) Hayden; grandchildren; Lauren (Noah) Hayden & Evan Hayden. Sylvia is also survived by sisters; Matti-Ann, Roberta, Martha, Phyllis, Remy, Demy; and brothers Joe & Michael Martinez, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place.
A rosary for Sylvia will be held Friday, March 7, 2025 at 10:30 AM at Imperial Funeral Home, with funeral service to follow at 11am. Sylvia will be laid to rest at Imperial Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
