Vesta Rutz

Vesta Mae Rutz passed away June 5, 2023 at the age of 96. She was born Vesta Mae Stockham on December 12, 1926 to Charles and Gladys Stockham in Sedgwick, Colorado. She graduated from Sedgwick High School and began to work as a bookkeeper and typist, which later led to work as a timekeeper and payroll clerk. She worked many years for the Union Pacific Railroad, and Denver Public Schools. In 1947, she met Victor Rutz and they were married in 1948 in Portland, Oregon. They were together until Victor’s death in 1989. Among her hobbies were knitting and crocheting, and she was protestant by faith. It has been said that if you ever met Vesta, you wouldn’t forget her.

She is survived by her children Donna, Helen, and Philip, and grandchildren Todd, Jason, Jared, and Heather. She is also remembered by numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and a great-great grandchild. Her graveside service will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery on June 21, 2023 starting at 11:00 am.
