Veta Ann Barnes was born in Pueblo, CO on August 28, 1930 to Sam and Rose (Musso) Martellaro. She left this earth on October 12, 2022. She was a proud resident of the famous “Goat Hill” area. She graduated from Centennial High School in 1948. She married Marvin Barnes on June 28, 1950.
Veta was a homemaker and cashier at Duckwalls in Belmont for almost 20 years. She was a familiar face to all the moms and kids in the Belmont area. She was a founding member at Christ the King Parish and belonged to the Altar society. She belonged to the Ladies Auxiliary for the National Association of Letter Carriers #229 and enjoyed the many conventions she attended. She was a full-time caretaker for her mother when she could no longer live alone and for Marvin, her husband when he became wheelchair bound. Her favorite activity was going to Cripple Creek. She would drive herself to the parking lot and go up on the bus. Occasionally, she would miss the bus to come home and have a really long day “up the hill”.
She was preceded in death by her parents Sam and Rose (Musso) Martellaro and her husband Marvin H. Barnes. She is survived by her brother Joe (Linda) Martellaro of Albuquerque. Her children Yvonne (Mike) Spinuzzi of Pueblo and Gene (Tina) Barnes of Arlington, TX There are six grandchildren; Michael (Lacey) Spinuzzi of Lewisville, TX., Leanne (Matt) Brighi of Greeley, David (April) Barnes of Pueblo, Chris (Katy) Barnes of Arlington, TX., Tiffany (David) Pierce of Arlington, TX., and Beth Tijerina also of Arlington, TX. Veta also had ten Great-grandchildren.
We would like to thank the Sangre de Cristo Hospice team that took care of her at her home and all of the staff at the Joni Fair Hospice House. Please omit food and flowers. Please make all contributions in Veta's name to Sangre de Cristo Hospice.
