Ernest was born February 10, 1931 to the late John Ed and Beatrice L. Griggs Hughes. He was a United States Marine Veteran, a member of First Baptist Church, and retired from Murray Ohio after 30yrs. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Aurgine Hughes, his sisters Ruthie Hughes, Birdie Lee Oakley, and grandson Brian Woods.
Visitation will be Saturday February 26, 2022 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Carr & Erwin Funeral Home with Funeral to follow at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years Ople Hughes of Prospect, his daughter Deborah Woods of Prospect, his granddaughter Bridget McMasters, his great grandchildren, Brooke Hargrove and Garrett White, his brothers-in-laws Bobby Powell and wife Jeanette of Prospect, and Owen Powell and wife Darla, and numerous nieces and nephews.
