He quickly became a lively and curious little boy who attracted those around him with his outgoing personality and love of life. In his youth, Jerry enjoyed playing Little League baseball and excelled as a student in school. He often spent his free time engaged in backyard baseball games with neighboring children, riding his horse on his father’s farm, shooting his BB gun at rusty empty cans, and exploring his yard and cul-de-sac on his bike or Honda 50. His adventurous spirit made him a favorite among friends and family alike. As a young adult, Jerry enlisted in the Air Force, where he served his country which included an assignment in Jacksonville, Florida. After service, he followed in his father’s footsteps, pursuing a career as a truck driver, delivering various products throughout the southern states. He took pride in his work and enjoyed the independence that life on the road provided. However, one fateful day, Jerry slipped on the bed of his delivery truck, resulting in a serious spinal injury. Despite undergoing multiple spinal surgeries, slight improvement was achieved, and he was eventually considered permanently disabled. Though this life-changing event brought many challenges, Jerry faced them with resilience and courage. In his final years, Jerry’s love of dogs brought him immense comfort and companionship. He was rarely seen without a loyal canine friend by his side, and his bond with his dogs often became a source of joy for both him and those who visited. His outgoing personality drew many friends and neighbors who were always willing to lend a helping hand, often sharing stories and laughter during their time together. Jerry’s warmth and openness created lasting connections, and his home was a welcoming place for all.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Kathy Stoner. He is survived by his father and stepmother, Robert Wayne, and Milah Storey; his sister and brother-in-law, Terri, and Mark Sheldon; his beloved daughter, Tabathia Storey; and grandchildren, who will all cherish his memory.
