Bruce A. Kibbey, a cherished husband, father, and veteran, went to heaven peacefully on January 19, 2025, in Port Charlotte, Florida. Born on December 12, 1944, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Bruce lived a full and honorable life marked by dedication to his family, his country, and his many passions.
Bruce's journey began as the beloved son of the late Walter and Mildred Kibbey. He grew up surrounded by the love and lessons of his uncles, aunts, and brothers—Kenny, Jack, and Roger, who preceded him in death. The values instilled in him during those early years in Michigan would be the guiding force behind his remarkable life.
Bruce married the love of his life, Marilyn Kaye-Kibbey, and together they built a legacy of love and commitment that nearly spanned half a century. Marilyn, alongside her sisters Loretta (David) Homrich, Mary (Daniel) Baatz, and Nancy Harris, mourn his loss but celebrate the beautiful memories they created together. He is also survived by his daughter, Dennice Burgess, as well as the many nephews and nieces who will fondly remember Bruce's warmth, wisdom, and practical building knowledge.
Bruce dedicated 35 years of his life to Steelcase, Inc. in Michigan, where he retired as a respected and valued employee. His strong work ethic and commitment to excellence were evident to all who worked alongside him. Beyond his professional life, Bruce was a proud Combat Vietnam Veteran, an experience that shaped him profoundly. His service to his country was recognized with numerous honors, including the Marksmanship Badge (Rifle), National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal.
Bruce's creative spirit found expression in his love for woodworking, steam engines, and designing airplanes. His hands were rarely still, as he was always in the process of crafting or conceptualizing his next project.
An active member of his community, Bruce found joy and fellowship in various clubs and organizations. His love for radio-controlled airplanes saw him become a member of several clubs in both Michigan and Florida, where he shared his passion and expertise with fellow enthusiasts. The camaraderie and friendships he forged within The Peace River Car Club in Florida, The Backstreet Cruisers in Milan, MI, and The Goodtime Cruisers in Monroe, MI, brought him immense happiness.
Bruce's commitment to fellow veterans remained a cornerstone of his life through his many activities and clubs, including The American Legion #103 in Punta Gorda.
The loss of Bruce A. Kibbey will be deeply felt, but his legacy will continue to thrive in the lives of those he touched. Though he may have taken his final flight, his journey will never truly end, as he soars in the memories of his loved ones and in the annals of the history he helped shape. Bruce's life is not one to be mourned but celebrated—a beacon of hope and a reminder of the beauty of a life fully embraced.
A Celebration of Mass in Bruce’s honor will take place at Sacred Heart Church 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 29th, 2025. 211 W Charlotte Ave, Punta Gorda, FL 33950.
