

Mr. Peter W. Kachila, age 77, of Punta Gorda, FL, passed away on Friday, (April 17, 2026) in Punta Gorda. He was born on November 23, 1948 in Ilion, NY to the late Peter and Marjorie Haupt Kachila. He grew up in Milford, CT before moving to Florida with his good friend Jeff Rhua. Peter graduated from Milford High School, class of 1966, where he was involved in the Ski Club and Rifle Club. One of Peter’s fondest memories was attending the Woodstock Music Festival in 1969 with his friends from the neighborhood where he grew up including Jerry Colello and Russ Walsh. Peter also attended the big Vietnam War Protest in Washington, DC. Peter was the Manager of the Budget Inn of Punta Gorda for many years until he retired. Peter was always thankful to his friend Jeff Rhua for introducing him to the owner of the Budget Inn, Ken Patel. And he was thankful to Ken for hiring him first as a handyman and then as the Motel Manager. Peter was grateful to his good friend Lisa Vasquez who drove him to many of his appointments, went out to dinner and movies with him and, who helped him out in many ways over the years. We would like to thank Lisa for all she did for Peter, and we’d like to thank his aide Belkis who took such good care of him in the past few months, treating him like her father. Peter was preceded in death by his brother, Jonathan E. Kachila of Milford, CT. He is survived by two sisters, Judith Kachila Kurtz of North Kingstown, RI, and Elizabeth Kachila Beck (John) of Glastonbury, CT. Other survivors include and five nieces and nephews, David and Allan Kurtz, Laura Stein (Noah), Andrew Beck (Sarah) and Fred Altieri (Susan). He also leaves 2 grandnieces, Persephone Altieri and Sylvie Beck; 1 grandnephew Walter Beck; and several cousins. There are no services scheduled at this time.
