Phyllis Jeanette Hoffman, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, went home to meet Jesus face to face on January 5, 2026, at the age of 93. She entered eternal life with confidence in her salvation, trusting fully in the promise of her Savior.
Born on July 24, 1932, in Ephrata, Pennsylvania, Phyllis was the fourth of eight children born to the late Walter H. and Vera M. Hoffman (née Commauf). She was raised in a lively household alongside her seven siblings. She was predeceased by her brothers and sisters: Helen Nolt, Esther Lynch, Ruth Witmer, Sara Kurtz, Paul Hoffman, and John Hoffman. Each of them held a special place in her heart, and the memories they shared remained a constant source of joy throughout her life. Phyllis’s strong will, fierce independence, and outgoing personality were gifts to all who knew her, and she will be deeply missed.
In 1958, Phyllis and her older sister, Esther, moved to Sarasota, Florida. In 1960, she became a mother to her daughter, Bonnie. She later relocated to Punta Gorda, Florida, in 1963, where she joined First Baptist Church of Punta Gorda and remained an active and devoted member for the next 40 years.During this time, she worked as a waitress and took on housekeeping jobs to support her family. In 1968, she became a mother to her son, Kevin. In 2003, Phyllis moved to Fort Myers, Florida, where she joined McGregor Baptist Church and remained a faithful member for the rest of her life.
Phyllis’s life was marked by her deep love for her family. She is survived by her adoring children, Bonnie (Mark) Wiles and Kevin Hoffman; her beloved grandchildren, Madeline (Luke) Wiles Carney, Weston Wiles and his fiancée, Kelsie Smith; and her dear brother, Luke (Betty) Hoffman. She was a trusted source of wisdom, encouragement, and unconditional love, and she took great pride in her role as the “family historian,” always eager to share stories and preserve the family legacy. She also held a very special place in her heart for her son-in-law, Mark, whose presence in her life was deeply cherished.
In addition to her love for family, Phyllis found great joy in reading and studying God’s Word, attending gospel and country music concerts, cooking, scrapbooking, gardening, watching Miracle League baseball games, and visiting family and friends in Pennsylvania. Her favorite pastime, however, was walking along the beach, collecting seashells, and soaking up the Florida sunshine.
Phyllis will be remembered for her legacy of love, faith, and kindness, which will live on through her family and the many friends she made throughout her life. As we bid farewell to Phyllis Jeanette Hoffman, we take comfort in knowing that her spirit is now with the Lord, and her memory will continue to guide and inspire us. Her life was a testament to the power of faith, the beauty of friendship, and the depth of family bonds. We give thanks for the time we shared with Phyllis and for the countless ways she enriched our lives.
