Roger Ernest Hearl, born to Roy and Adele Hearl in Chicago, IL, November 9, 1941, passed away on March 17, 2026.
Roger grew up in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, and graduated from Glenbard West High School. He proudly served in the U.S. Army before attending and graduating from Southern Illinois University.
Family vacations to Rhinelander, Wisconsin, sparked his lifelong love of fishing and became one of his favorite places to relax. He later moved to Worthington, Indiana, where he raised his young family and purchased a 65-acre farm that he deeply cherished. Roger worked hard to provide for his family and retired from ConAgra in 1997.
He and his loving wife, Ginger, then moved to Florida, where he discovered a passion for tennis and enjoyed spending his time reading and completing countless puzzles. They also maintained a beloved summer retreat in Woodruff, Wisconsin, where friends affectionately called him the “Fish Whisperer.” Hunting and fishing were among his greatest joys, and he found peace in the quiet of the woods and on the lakes.
Roger’s four daughters and their families were his pride and joy and we are all going to miss him dearly. Later in life, one of his greatest pleasures was spending time with Ginger and their beloved Cockapoo, Tuffi.
Roger is survived by the love of his life, Ginger; his four daughters, Leigh Anne (Hearl) Shields (Scott), Nanette Elizabeth (Hearl) Potter (Roy Jr.), Kim Hardesty, and Kambi (Hardesty) Davis (Steve); his grandchildren, Kelly Shields, Brett (Brittany) Shields, Baleigh Anne Elizabeth (JK) Potter-Tucker, RJ (Kylee) Potter, Brianna Baldwin, and Mitzi (John) Moss; and his great-grandchildren, Preston Moss, Malcolm Bailey, Francis Featherstone Shields, Julian Gray Shields, and Stetson Roy Tucker. He is also survived by his sister, Susan Adele (Hearl) Keller (Don).
Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Ernest and Adele Florence Hearl; his brother, Alan Ralph Hearl; his grandson, Steven Curtis Davis; and his beloved dog, Tuffi.
