Tom was born on September 8, 1946 in Tremont, III to Claude and Macle Bryan. With a strong desire to serve his country he enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1970. Reaching the rank of Sergeant, Tom earned a Combat Action Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Meritorious Unit Citation and the Vietnam Gallantry Cross. Tom served two tours in Vietnam before returning home and marrying the love of his life, Beverly Sue Mills in Carbondale, IL on September 16, 1978. Tom worked as an engineer and train master for over twenty years for Missouri Pacific, Houston Rail and Terminal Co., Chicago & Northwestern Transportation and Union Pacific. After retiring Tom moved to southwest Florida where he enjoyed boating, spending his summers in the mountains of North Carolina and going on cruises with his wife.
Tom was a people person and was always quick to say hello and lend a helping hand to his friends and neighbors. Forever a Marine, you could see the American flags fly high out of the windows of his vehicle on his way to his favorite place for breakfast, the VFW in Port Charlotte. Tom loved to read, especially Vince Flynn, and could always be found with a paperback novel. He was a member of the Tremont Masonic Lodge 462, the American Legion and the VFW.
He is preceded in death by his parents Claude and Macel Bryan. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Beverly Sue of Punta Gorda, his two children, Lydia Mills of Cape Coral and Jeffery Mills of North Fort Myers, two granddaughters Olivia and Hilary Wendt, one great-grandson Liam, and his two dogs Daisy and Holly.
