

born at home in rural Edison NE of Thomas and Pearl Cole. She married Sgt John
Steinley May 17th 1947 in Hutchinson KS. She is survived by her husband, daughters
Marilane Kolovos (George), Peggy Schmidt (Dale), Rebecca and son Thomas (Shay) and
five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Brothers Carl, Neale, Loren and sister
Geraldine Keyes.
She graduated from Almena KS High School and was the President and Salutatorian of
her senior class. She loved school and always did her best to do well. During High
School she worked at the Almena Plain dealer newspaper learning how to operate the
linotype machine. She went on to business college in Hutchinson KS and while there
worked for the Brown Publishing Company as their linotype operator and proofreader of
legal documents.
Nearly 70 years of marriage took them to Camp Carson CO and Germany twice with the
Army, returning to civilian life in June 1954. This was the start of 35 years with
Firestone Tire and Rubber Company in Cheyenne WY, Denver, Los Angeles area Twice,
Salt Lake City, San Francisco, Federal Way and Puyallup. She was a "house-hold
engineer" for 33 years. She loved her first paying job at the Hallmark Store in Federal
Way for 11 years. She became the manager and of course was a very good one.
She was always active in the church in the m any cities they called home. She served as a
Deacon in the Presbyterian churches in Federal Way and Puyallup.
A memorial celebration of her life will be held at Shepherd of the Hill Presbyterian
church, 8401 112th St. E. Puyallup WA February 11th at 11 am. A reception in
Fellowship hall will follow immediately.
In lieu of flowers a donation to Shepherd of the Hill Presbyterian Church designated
"Deacons" or "Philliss Steinley" Memorial Fund" will be most welcome and appreciated.
