He passed away in Tacoma on January 10, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. He spend is youth fishing, camping and working all around the Olympic Pennisula where he was part of the crew that built the road up to Hurricane Ridge, this was one of his favorite places. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force were he proudly served as a flight engineer on the Globemaster C-124's. He retired after 20 years as a CMSgt. He was also a flight instructor for private pilots, often praised for how thorough and detailed his teaching was. He rebuilt several antique airplanes out in the garage with his family often times finding plane engines in the house or wings on the back porch. Bob could fix anything, be it a plane, car, fence, boat, plumbing electrical, always the go to guy. He loved his family dearly and we all knew that "actions spoke louder then words" with him as he prepared his kids and grandkids for life, teaching them practical things, fix tires, build fires, how to use tools and most importantly to not be afraid of hard work. He built his girls many things, a play stove and refridgerator, a car that ran with a lawnmower engine and a purple minibike that made the neighbors crazy. His building continued with the grandkids with cradles and rocking horses. He taught his grandsons about gun safety and took them out trap shooting and much about how to work on cars. Bob and Alma hosted many students from overseas while they were attending college here in the Northwest. They enjoyed showing them the sights, teaching them to drive and included them as family members still keeping touch with many of them to this day.
