It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Alina Fleurimar, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished family matriarch. Alina passed away peacefully in December 2024, at the age of 87, leaving behind a lasting legacy of strength, determination, and love.
Born on May 11, 1937, in Haiti to Anela Moreau and Vilna Fleurimar, Alina was the eldest of three children, alongside her brothers Joseph and Vilbert. From a young age, Alina showed a fierce determination and strong will. She was not one to back down from challenges, and throughout her life, she proved time and again that she could overcome any obstacle standing in her way.
In pursuit of a better life for herself and her family, Alina made the brave decision to leave Haiti, leaving her six children behind in the care of her grandmother while she traveled to the United States. Her journey was one of sacrifice, resilience, and unwavering commitment to her children’s future. In 1971, she brought her husband to the U.S. and, over the following years, reunited her family. First, she brought her daughter Faye and son Arnold in 1973, and in 1976, the rest of her children, James, MarieAnge, and Raymond, joined her.
In 1974, Alina separated from her husband, yet she remained a steadfast and loving mother, determined to provide for her children. Alina’s perseverance allowed her to realize her dream of owning a home, purchasing a house in Queens, New York, in 1979. She sold the house in 1986 and, undeterred, returned to Haiti to pursue a new venture—restarting her commerce business. But when political unrest in Haiti escalated, Alina packed up once again and relocated to Florida.
Even in Florida, Alina’s spirit remained unyielding. Her son purchased a home for their family, but when Alina realized the situation was not ideal, she took matters into her own hands, eventually selling the property and moving on to other homes and condos. No matter where life took her, Alina was unstoppable—always moving forward, always making decisions that ensured her and her family’s well-being.
In her later years, Alina returned to New York, where she spent her final years with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. As fiercely independent as ever, she resisted staying in an assisted living facility. One day, her family received a call that Alina had arrived at someone’s doorstep, saying, “How is it that this little old lady is here at my door?” That was Alina—a woman who never let age or circumstance stand in her way.
Alina leaves behind a legacy of love and tenacity. She is now with her daughters MarieAnge, Ginette and her granddaughter Jamie, all of whom she loved dearly and will forever be missed. Alina is survived by her children Faye, Arnold, James, and Raymond; her grandchildren Bobby, Lauren, Bryan, Sonia, Nia, Arion, David, Jamie, Jasmine, Tajh, Erica, Brandon, Dylan, Jordan, and Sydney; and her great-grandchildren Jada, Giana, Nash, Jovanni, Logan, Mia, and Jhette.
Alina’s life was a testament to the power of perseverance, the importance of family, and the strength of a woman who, no matter what life threw her way, remained steadfast in her love for her family and her determination to give them the best life possible. She will be remembered for her unyielding spirit, her boundless love, and her ability to turn her dreams into reality.
Her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her, and her memory will be cherished by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren for generations to come.
May she rest in peace, knowing she made an enduring impact on everyone who loved her.
