Denise Coupet

Denise Kavanagh est née le 17 Octobre 1936 à Miragoane, Haïti, des parents Julia Tropnas et de Mécène Kavanagh. La petite et jeune Denise, cadette de neuf (9) enfants, grandit dans la ville de Miragoâne, et fréquenta l’Institution des Sœurs de la Sagesse. Durant son temps libre, elle s’adonna à la broderie, la couture, la pâtisserie, talents qu’une jeune fille avait besoin pour diriger une famille.

Le 7 janvier 1956, à l’âge de 19 ans, Denise épousa Gérard Coupet. De cette union sont nés sept (7) enfants, dont six (6) survivants: Marie Lucienne, Antonine, Jean Gérard, Darly, Nadège et Henry Claude. Frantz Reginald l’a précédé auprès du Père le 18 Février 2021.

Très jeune, Denise avait un rêve qu’elle ne pouvait pas réaliser à Miragoâne. Ses projets pour l’avenir de sa famille étaient très ambitieux. A l’âge de 25 ans, elle décida d’aller vivre à Port-au-Prince, pour donner à ses enfants, des opportunités qu’elle n’avait pas en grandissant à Miragoane.

A Port-au-Prince, ses filles attendaient l’Institution des Sœurs du Sacré- Cœur de Turgeau, et ses garçons le Petit Séminaire Collège Saint Martial.

En 1978, Denise décida d’aller vivre à New York en permanence pour continuer à supporter ses enfants pendant qu’ils attendaient l’université.

Sa foi, empreinte d’une dévotion à la Sainte Vierge Marie, se reflétait chez Denise dans le silence, la simplicité, et le dévouement envers sa famille, son église, et sa communauté.

Le 3 Février 2026, entourée de ses enfants, pendant qu’ils priaient le Rosaire, paisiblement, Denise est retourné vers son Père.

Denise Kavanagh was born on October 17, 1936 in Miragoâne, Haiti to parents Julia Tropnas and Mécène Kavanagh. Denise, the second of nine (9) children, grew up in the city of Miragoâne and attended the Institution of the Sisters of Wisdom. During her free time, she devoted herself to embroidery, sewing, and baking—talents that a young woman needed to run a family.

On January 7, 1956, at the age of 19, Denise married Gérard Coupet. From this union were born seven (7) children, of which six (6) survive: Marie Lucienne, Antonine, Jean Gérard, Darly, Nadège and Henry Claude. Frantz Reginald preceded her to the Father on February 18, 2021.

From a very young age, Denise had a dream that she could not realize in Miragoâne. Her plans for her family’s future were very ambitious. At the age of 25, she decided to move to Port-au-Prince to give her children opportunities that she did not have growing up in Miragoâne.

In Port-au-Prince, her daughters attended the Institution of the Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Turgeau and her sons the Petit Séminaire Collège Saint Martial.

In 1978, Denise decided to move permanently to New York to continue supporting her children while they attended university.

Her faith, marked by a devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary, was reflected in Denise's silence, simplicity, and devotion to her family, her church, and her community.

On February 3, 2026, surrounded by her children, while they prayed the Rosary Denise peacefully returned to her Father.

A visitation will be held at R. Stutzmann & Son, located at 224-39 Jamaica Ave, Queens Village, NY 11428, on February 13, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

The funeral mass will take place at Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, 92-96 220th St, New York, NY 11428, on February 14, 2026, from 9:45 am to 10:45 am.

Burial will follow at Mount St. Mary Cemetery, 172-00 Booth Memorial Ave, New York, NY 11365, on February 14, 2026, from 11:45 am to 12:15 pm.
