Jerry Conception was born in Morvant in Port-Of-Spain, Trinidad in 1965. He moved to Brooklyn as a child, where he attended Benjamin Banneker Academy. After a brief career at the Board of Education, Jerry decided to serve his community by following in his father's footsteps to become a New York City police officer. He fulfilled his dream when he joined the NYPD in 1992, where Jerry became an undercover cop and an amazing crime fighter.
Being the driven man he was, Jerry quickly rose up the ranks. He became a mentor and leader for many young undercovers, teaching them the skills they needed to be effective. Jerry went on to have a long, decorated career of 29 years, achieving the rank of First Grade Detective, an honor few have the privilege to accomplish. Jerry's exemplary dedication to the NYPD and to our city will be Jerry's greatest legacy to all those who follow in his footsteps.
When he wasn't on the job, Jerry also loved house music, action movies and his three dogs, April, Teddi, and Nina. Everyone who knew Jerry knew his deep love for the Raiders and that he was lucky number 13. Jerry was a prankster who loved to tell a good story and have all the latest tech. He enjoyed living a simple life, but he also loved fast cars and motorcycles. Jerry was a man's man with a tough exterior, but Jerry had a gentle heart. In fact, Jerry's family called him the Gentle Giant. Jerry was a mentor, a family man, and most of all, Jerry was always there when you needed him.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Crystal Conception, who he first met in 1998, his siblings Clyde, Alison, Lester, Germain, Catherine and Yolande, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. To know Jerry was to love Jerry, he has left us much too soon. His passing left a hole in our lives that will never be filled. Jerry will be missed by all who knew and loved him the rest of our days.
A memorial service for Gerard will be held Thursday, March 7, 2024 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at R. Stutzmann & Son, 22439 Jamaica Ave, Queens Village, New York 11428.
