

Imogene Nurse-Miller, 76, died Thursday, October 19th, 2023 at her Elmont home with her family by her side.
Imogene Miller was born on December 5th, 1946 in Carrington Village in the parish of St Michael, Barbados. She was the youngest child of Ashton and Estelle Nurse. Her sisters were Merle and Jasmin who are both deceased. Her brothers are Mark and Henderson.
Imogene went to Erdiston Primary School and Modern School in Barbados. She attended nursing school in London where she received her nursing degree. She spent most of her career in New York at Beth Israel Medical Center as a NICU nurse for 40 years.
Although retired since 2011, Imogene, always a nurse, volunteered and delivered food to the sick during the COVID epidemic.
In 1969, Imogene met Darnley Miller and they married in 1971. They had 2 daughters: Natasha and Renée. They were married for over 38 years before he passed away in 2009. Imogene was the loving grandmother to granddaughter Soraya and grandson Alem Awi.
Imogene participated in the Ms. Senior New York pageant. She took home the crown in Ms. Senior Sweetheart Barbados and was the reigning sweetheart from 2015-2016.
Always the fashionista. You couldn’t walk into a store without hearing, “hi Imogene, I put a few things aside for you.” She would often been found on the catwalks and runways of several local boutiques.
Imogene loved to travel having visited many countries on almost every continent. She was also a writer. Her collection of poems will be published soon.
Visitation Friday, October 27th at 4-8 p.m at R. Stutzmann & Son in Queens Village. Funeral services held on Saturday October 28th at 10 a.m at Cathedral of the Incarnation in Garden City.
