Jean Gerard Pierre Sr., the son of Raymond Pierre and Camilla Latortue, was born on June 11, 1935, in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. He attended Institution Saint-Louis de Gonzague for primary school and Marcel Dauphin for secondary school before studying Philosophy at Université d’état d’Haïti.
Jean Gerard later left Haiti and moved to Belgium, where he worked as a Merchant Marine for two years. He went on to attend the Université du Travail Paul Pastur in Belgium, studying to become a mechanic/technician. During that time, he enjoyed riding his bicycle through town, working a part-time job, and occasionally riding on the back of a Vespa scooter with his close friend and classmate. He also developed a passion for photography, capturing moments with his Agfa Optima 35mm camera and sending the pictures home to his family.
After completing his studies, Jean Gerard relocated to the United States and began a long and successful career with Peugeot Motors of America in Lyndhurst, New Jersey, where he served as the Assistant Parts Sales Manager for more than 20 years.
In 1961, Jean Gerard married the late Marlene Malval, and together they raised two sons, Jean Pierre Jr. and Patrick Pierre. In 1972, the family moved from Brooklyn to Cambria Heights, Queens, after purchasing their home where they would live, laugh and love for the rest of their lives.
A devoted father, Jean Gerard, worked tirelessly to provide for his family. He was generous with advice, protective of his sons, and always attentive to their well-being, often calling to remind them to drive safely, especially in harsh weather. He loved watching soccer, dancing to salsa music, and listening to instrumental guitar music. He had a sweet tooth and especially enjoyed pound cake and ice cream. Fishing was another passion he cherished and passed on to his sons. When his sons were young, Jean Gerard frequently took them fishing at Point Lookout on Long Island. As they grew older, his sons returned the favor by taking him fishing at lakes throughout New York, New Jersey, and Florida.
In July 2000, Jean Gerard dedicated his life to the Lord and found joy in listening to worship music.
On February 17, 2026, Jean Gerard was called home to be with His Lord and to be reunited with his wife, Marlene, who predeceased him. To cherish his memory, he is survived by his sons, Jean Pierre Jr. and Patrick Pierre; his daughter-in-law, Rosa Pierre; his cousin, Rudy Latortue; his sisters-in-law, Giselle Brown and Alfrede Leger; his nieces, Gilianne, Jocelyne, Magalie, Yanick, Florence, Nancy, Jasmine, Marjorie, and Patricia; and a host of grand nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
