

John Cimilluca, born on April 9, 1938, in Upper Manhattan, New York, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2025, at the age of 87. He was the beloved son of the late Philip and Francesca Cimilluca and the cherished brother of the late Anthony Cimilluca.
John attended P.S. 189 and graduated from Machine & Metal Technical & Vocational High School in Manhattan. Following his education, he proudly enlisted in the United States Navy, serving with distinction in Mobile Construction Battalion #3 (the Seabees). His assignments took him to Port Hueneme, California, as well as Midway and Okinawa Islands. He completed his service after three and a half years, honorably discharged as a Builder Second Class.
In September 1961, John married the love of his life, the late Johanna Cimilluca. They began their life together in Washington Heights and the Bronx before settling in Queens Village, where they raised their children and built a home filled with love, laughter, and enduring values.
John went on to serve 22 years with the New York City Housing Authority Police Department, retiring in 1990 with the rank of Detective 3rd Grade. His patrol assignments included Spanish Harlem and the Throggs Neck area of the Bronx. He also served as a member of the Civilian Complaint Review Board, reflecting his commitment to fairness and accountability in law enforcement.
Throughout his career, John was recognized for his exemplary service. He received several exemplary attendance certificates, a NYC Health & Hospitals Corporation Unit Citation for assisting in the delivery of a baby, and a special citation from the Catholic War Veterans. The NYCHA Police Department honored him with four Medals for Excellent Police Duty, three for Meritorious Police Duty, and one Exceptional Merit Award.
John will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his community, and his country. His quiet strength, integrity, and compassion left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
He is survived by his daughter, JoAnn, and her husband Joseph Torre, and their children Taylor and Thomas; his son John Cimilluca and wife Carol, and their children Jordan, John, and Jaime O'Sullivan and wife Melissa, along with their daughters Emma and Abigail; and his son James Cimilluca and his longtime girlfriend, Giuseppina.
A funeral service will be held at R. Stutzmann & Son Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 11, 2025. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in John’s memory.
