Kenneth “David” Johnson! Rachael and Kenneth were so proud when their 7 lbs 12oz. bundle of joy was delivered on January 5, 1972 at Franklin General Hospital in Franklin Square, New York. Although they understood that this blessing from God was just on loan, they could not foresee that his due date would be so “short term”.
Without any knowledge of time limitations, they were overjoyed and overwhelmed by God entrusting this gift to them, they immediately embarked on a plan to provide a journey that would enrich his life and ensure opportunities for his future. David spent his pre-school years in South Ozone Park, Long Island, New York where the “Johnson Family” nested in their first single family home.
Inwood, Long Island was where David spent most of his adult life having graduated from Lawrence High School. David was a courageous adventurer, who enthusiastically pursued his goals. His convictions were not easily discouraged! He seldom minced words, but took responsibility for his words, thoughts and actions. After one year at Mohawk Valley Community College, he had a desire to seek other opportunities and possibilities.
In September of 1993, in Queens Village - a chance meting – David met the love of his life – Sabrina Potente. He introduced himself as “Dai”, an affectionate name that remains with him. They were married on February 14, 2000. David embraced the nieces and nephews of his “Potente” family with an unconditional love and devotion that was only exceeded by the pride and love he had when his first son was born –Devin and his second son Noah. David was raised as a Christian, and made his own personal commitment by being Baptized and Confirmed in the Catholic Church.
With an easy and beguiling smile, Dai was a smooth mixture of charm and wit. These personality traits were evidenced as he launched his career as a car salesman for Mitsubishi, Ford, Chevrolet and Lexus. During his time of seeking his niche, he also studied Mixology and worked as a Mortgage consultant. As a responsible adult with a family he began to consider a more stable position that was also in line with his passion for cars. He got his license and began driving 18-wheeler trucks. Being a “trucker” segued to entrepreneurship and ownership of his own trucking business – K & S Trucking !
David leaves behind to mourn his passing: Wife Sabrina, sons Devin and Noah, Mother Rachael, Father Kenneth, Step-Mother, Linda, Grandmother Mary Johnson, Aunts Muriel and Roslyn, Uncle Scott , sister Malieka, Brothers, Imani and Joshua; Sisters in Law Francesca, Ann Victoria, Le’Toya, Brother-in-Law Terrence, Nieces and Nephews: Stephanie, Gabriela, Frank and Anthony, Felicia, Jason, Naomi and Godmother Lenore and many other family members across generations.
Some of David's favorite quotes were "Get over it!" & "I can fix anything... all I need is duct tape, zip ties and WD40."
In lieu of flowers, family is accepting direct donations.
