

Mr. Ellison was born in Quincy on December 24, 1919, the son of the late Carl A. and Bertha I. (Larson) Ellison. He graduated from North Quincy High School and married Phyllis L. Johns with whom he shared 64 years of marriage before her passing.
Mr. Ellison served a 4 year apprenticeship at Fore River Shipyard, a division of Bethlehem Steel, receiving his certificate as a Shipwright and Joiner. He remained at the shipyard for several years, often inspecting ships during their trials. He worked on the USS Massachusetts.
After leaving the shipyard, Roy began a 30 plus year career at Boston University, eventually becoming head of the Building and Grounds Department.
Mr. Ellison enjoyed playing baseball for the Fore River Apprentice and Park leagues where he was known for being an excellent pitcher. In addition, he played basketball for the Church League, later coaching many basketball teams within his church.
The Quincy Community United Methodist Church was a special place for Roy. He not only was a member of the church for many years, but also served in many capacities. He was a life-time member of Wollaston Masonic Lodge A.F. & A. M.
Roy enjoyed carpentry, woodworking and woodcarving, often making pieces of furniture for loved ones as well as items that were sold at the church and Linden Ponds fairs.
Mr. Ellison is survived by his two children, Judy Ellison Morris and her husband Bruce of Plainville, CT and RADM David Roy Ellison, USN (Ret) and his wife Leslie of Accokeek, MD. He is the grandfather of Wendy Wendel, Deborah Roe, Katherine Donnald, Karen Morris, Christian Ellison, Lt. Col Kyle Ellison, USMC and Kari Romero; he is also survived by 15 great-grandchildren.
