

Mrs. Carolyn Faye Knowles Ratley, 67, of Red Springs, much loved wife, mother, grandmother, nurse, caregiver, and friend to everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her, passed away suddenly Saturday, May 28, 2011. Carolyn, a selfless Christian who served the Lord faithfully by serving others, was an active member and deacon of Red Springs First Baptist Church. Always the caregiver, she was a nurse at Southeastern Regional Medical Center until establishing and serving as director of the First Baptist Child Development Center for over 25 years. More recently she retired from home health nursing and was happiest babysitting her grandchildren and showing kindness toward others. She is survived by her husband, D.A. Ratley, Jr. Of the home; son Dave and wife Amy and grandchildren Alex and Addison of Laurinburg; son Dwight Ratley of Red Springs and his fianc Amy Avery; two brothers and one sister, J.C. Knowles, Marion Knowles, and Mary Lee Strickland; numerous nieces and nephews and an abundance of friends. She was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Bonham and husband Jimmy Bonaham, and a brother, Forrest Knowles. Visitation will be 7:00 until 9:00pm, Monday, May 30, 2011 at Crumpler Funeral Home, 220 East 4th Avenue, Red Springs, NC. Funeral Services will be held 11:00am, Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at First Baptist Church in Red Springs, with Reverend Bradley Boberg officiating. Burial will be in Alloway Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the "New Playground Fund" at First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 166. Red Springs, NC 28377.
