

Donald E. Hurst, 85, of Pine Bluff, North Carolina, passed from this life on Monday, November 17, 2014. A native of Baker County, Florida, he resided in Hamlet and Pine Bluff, NC since 1970 moving there from Palatka. Donald served honorable in the U.S. Army during World War II. He retired from Georgia Pacific as a supervisor in the printer engraving division after 38 years of service. Don also had owned and operated D&B Crossroads Bargain Barn in Hamlet, NC. He was a member of the Woodmen of the World, a life member of the VFW and was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Janet Hurst Simmons, his parents, Fred and Effie Hurst, 2 brothers, Orville Hurst and J.E. Hurst and 2 sisters, Mickie Godbee and Louise Rash. Donald is survived by his wife of 28 years, Betty Hurst of Pine Bluff, NC, his grandson, Mac Simmons of Arlington, TX, 2 brothers, Fred Hurst and wife Mary Frances and Howard Hurst, all of Palatka, FL, a sister, Beulah Cannon of Palatka, FL; Step-Daughter, Karen Brady (Darrell) of Rockingham; Step-Granddaughter, Whitney and Lauren of Southern Pines; Step-Great Granddaughter, Alexis and Jace; several nieces and nephews; and his special caretaker, Barbara Patterson of Pinebluff. Services were held 2:00 P.M. Friday, November 21, 2014 at Johnson-Overturf Chapel in Palatka, FL with Rev. Fred Hurst officiating. Burial followed at Palatka Memorial Gardens with the U.S. Army conducting military honors. The family received friends Thursday from 5-7 P.M. at Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home.
