

Mr. Edwin Lentz McNeill, Sr. of 111 West Prospect Ave, died Sunday, October 16, 2011 in his home at the age of 89. Mr. McNeill was born in Hoke County on March 21, 1922 to the late John Knox McNeill and Beulah Burns Lentz McNeill. He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine Anne McNeill and four brothers, Kenneth W. McNeill, John K. McNeill, Jr., Neill A. McNeill and James L. (Luke) McNeill. He was a member of the Raeford Presbyterian Church, and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He and his brothers founded Home Food Market in Raeford, which is still in business today on Main Street. Survivors include a son, Edwin "Eddie" L. McNeill and his wife Patricia of Raeford; a daughter Catherine McNeill Owens and her husband Edward of Raeford; One brother, Bobby B. McNeill and his wife Betsy of Raeford; Three sisters-in-law; Betsy Ann McNeill of Cary, Phyllis McNeill and Mary Archie McNeill both of Raeford; Four grandchildren, Elizabeth Walker Owens, James Edwin McNeill and his wife Amy, Catherine McNeill Kummer and her husband Michael, David Mebane McNeill and his wife Melissa; Two great grandchildren, Joseph Walker McNeill and William Michael Kummer; several nieces and nephew. A special thanks to his caregivers, Wanda Chavis, Kim Smith, and Helen Thomas. A graveside service will be held 11:00 AM, Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at the Raeford Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service at the graveside. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Raeford Presbyterian Church Building Fund, PO Box 1570, Raeford, NC 28376.
