

Dateline: Southern Pines Mr. Hollis George Hilton Thompson, age 93 and his wife, Mrs. Margaret Cole Thompson age 86 of Southern Pines, both died of natural causes on April 26, 2015 at The Carolina House in Pinehurst, NC. Mr. Thompson was born February 26, 1922 in Richford VT, to the late Leon and Mary Ellen Berry Thompson. Mr. Thompson was Bell Captain at the Carolina Hotel and worked for Smithsons Inc. for 45 years until he retired. He was an active member of St. Anthony of Padua Church, a founding member of the Knights of Columbus, The Southern Pines Elks Club, and The Sandpipers at the Southern Pines Country Club. Mr. Thompson was a volunteer fireman, and an avid golfer. Mrs. Thompson was born June 15, 1928 in Scituate, MA, to the late Howard and Margaret Hernan Cole. Mrs. Thompson worked as hostess at the Pine Crest Inn in Pinehurst for 25 years, was co-owner of BP Pinch Pennies Ladies Clothing Store in Southern Pines, and worked for Lynes Furniture Gallery in Pinehurst. She was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, and Womens Guild , St. Joseph Hospital Guild for 50 years, Moore County Historical Association, Southern Pines Library Board, Southern Pines Appearance Commission. She danced and was a member of the Sophisticated Ladies for 15 years, an avid golfer and member of Par Seekers Golf Association. She was a Docent at the Shaw House, a travel guide with the Arts Council of Moore County. She traveled extensively to England, Scotland, Italy, Budapest, Prague, Vienna and more. Mrs. Thompson was past president of the Arts Council of Southern Pines and past president of Southern Pines Garden Club. The Thompsons are survived by their five children, Cheryl Thompson Burke ( David N. Burke) from Palos Verdes, CA; Hilton George Thompson (Tommy) of St. Petersburg FL; Patricia Marie (Patty) of southern Pines, Mary Margaret Thompson of Los Angeles,CA and William Cole Thompson ( Billy)(Peter dot com) of Southern Pines, 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Funeral mass for both Margaret and Hollis will be held 10:00am Friday, May 1, 2015 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, directed by Crumpler Funeral Home of Aberdeen. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Family will receive friends after the committal service at the church. Funeral Arrangement will be announced by Crumpler Funeral Home in Pinebluff.
