

Jenny Hassan, 58 years, of Kenora, Ontario, formerly of Big Grassy First Nation, passed away suddenly on Saturday, December 10, 2011 at the Health Science Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Jenny was born on February 5, 1953 in Kenora, Ontario to the late Peter and Jean Medicine. Jenny spent her younger years growing up in Big Grassy First Nation, Ontario. Over the years, she worked for Marvin Windows in Warroad, MN., and later for Canada Post in various locations including Winnipeg, Manitoba where she worked for the past 32 years. Jenny was a kind and loving person and never refused help to anyone. Her interest included playing Bingo, and enjoying the entertainment at Casinos. She also was very good at duck hunting, and at commercial fishing on Lake of the Woods. At home, she loved playing family games like scrabble. Jenny was very outgoing everywhere, and will be sadly missed by all of her family and friends.
She was predeceased by one sister, Doris Gott; and two brothers, Gary and Larry Gott.
Jenny is survived by her four sisters, Susan Archie (Rod) of Big Grassy First Nation, ON., Lalie (Louis) Kirkrude of Big Island First Nation, ON., Kristine Archie, and Lena (Rennie) Gott all of Winnipeg, MB.; one brother, Leslie Hutchins of Toronto, ON., three uncles, Robert Archie of Big Grassy First Nation, ON., Sam Archie of Fort Frances, ON., and Tom Medicine of Manitou Rapids Rainy River First Nation, ON., four aunts, Jean Bombay and Roseanne Leonard both of Manitou Rapids Rainy River First Nation, ON., Geraldine Archie of Big Grassy First Nation, ON., and Bridget Archie of Fort Frances, ON.; and many nieces and nephews.
A traditional burial ritual will be held on Friday, December 16, 2011 at 10 a.m. at the Big Grassy First Nation Hall with Elder Charlie Nelson officiating.
A wake will be held on Thursday evening at the Big Grassy First Nation Hall.
Burial will take place in Big Grassy First Nation Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Rod Traverse, Jamie Archie, Sheldon Walker, Jonathan Seymour, Derek Archie and Tristan Seymour.
