

He attended St. Andrew’s elementary school and graduated from Cathedral Preparatory School in Erie, PA in 1952. He earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Gannon College in Erie, PA and a master’s degree in business administration (MBA) from Webster College in Webster Groves, MO. Andrew served in the US Army, worked as a civilian for the Department of Defense for 38 years and subsequently worked for Northrup Grumman for several additional years as a technical writer and editor. His job took him to different parts of the US, including Richmond, VA, St. Louis, MO, Washington, D.C., and he retired in Raleigh, NC.
He met the love of his life, Eleanore Margaret Hertel, in 1961; they married in 1964, and had five children. He loved his family dearly and did his best to fulfill his roles as husband, father and grandfather. Andrew passed on his love of science, mathematics and education to his children and grandchildren, and he supported all of them in their educational aspirations and achievements.
Andrew was an active parishioner in the Catholic church all his life. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and he served on the school board, as a Eucharistic minister and as a lector at various parishes. He was a proud alumnus of Cathedral Preparatory School and actively kept in touch with his classmates. He was interested in space and astronomy, enjoyed going to the movies, loved sharing a good meal with family and friends, and was a lifelong fan of the Cleveland Guardians.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Aida Rose (DeBello) and Peter John Gamble, his sister Virginia Gamble Bertges and several cousins. He is survived by his wife, his children, Theresa Rose Gamble (Sylvain Marguerat), Susan Marie Gamble (Michael Norman), Kathleen Marie Gamble, Laura Gamble Whalen (Stephen) and David Stephen Gamble (Toshie Kurihara) and his grandchildren, Thomas Geoffrey Foster and Nathalie Sakura Gamble.
A funeral mass to celebrate his life will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Parish, located at 11401 Leesville Road, Raleigh, NC on August 17, 2024, at 11:00 am, with visitation starting at 10:00 am. The service will be live streamed, (please use the 'Join Livestream' link in the services box below), followed by the commitment of his remains to the columbarium at St. Francis.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the 50+ Adult Group at The Catholic Community of St. Francis of Assisi, Cathedral Preparatory School or a charity of your choice.
