

Mary Ann Litts Lucas “Ann”, age 97, died peacefully on March 21, 2026. She was born on September 15, 1928, to the late Jay Casper Litts and Jane Harveycutter Litts. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband William Blair “Bill” Lucas and her sister, Jane Litts Hough. She is survived by her daughter Jane Smith, her husband Steve, and their children Margaret, Walker, and Lucas. She is also survived by her son, Guy, and her son, Jay, his wife Annette, and their children, Valerie and John.
Ann was born and raised in Norton, Virginia; where she attended Norton High School, after which she attended the College of William & Mary where she was a member of the Chi Omega sorority. Ann and Bill were married on December 22, 1952, and lived in Eden, North Carolina, where they had their children. Ann was the first woman elected to the vestry of The Episcopal Church of the Epiphany in Eden. They moved to Richmond, Virginia, and lived there for many years where Ann was a member of the Altar Guild at All Saints Episcopal Church and a member of the Tuckahoe Woman’s Club.
Ann and Bill spent their time with family and friends and enjoyed having them visit at their vacation home at Smith Mountain Lake, Virginia. They also enjoyed attending reunions and football games at William & Mary. Ann and Bill traveled to much of the world and had wonderful experiences. In 2011, they moved to the Springmoor Retirement Community in Raleigh, North Carolina and made many friends there.
The memorial service will be Monday, March 30, 2026 at 2:30 p.m. at Springmoor Retirement Community in Raleigh.
The family would like to thank the devoted caregivers at Springmoor’s Stewart Health Center and all Springmoor’s staff, as well as Transitions LifeCare. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Springmoor Endowment Fund, Transitions LifeCare, the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, or to the charity of your choice.
