My husband of 35 years, Archie Wayland Futrell, Jr., passed away on August 21, 2010, at the age of 86, in the loving care of the staff at the Rosewood Health Care Center located in the Cypress of Raleigh Retirement Community.
We are planning a graveside service at the Chapel of Memories at Montlawn Cemetery on Monday, August 23 at 2:00 PM. The family will be receiving friends at the Cypress Club House following the service from 4:00 - 5:30 PM.
A native of Nashville, NC, he is the son of Archie W. Futrell and Julia Bryan Futrell. He proudly served in the 8th Army Air Corps in the European Theater during World War II. Following his honorable discharge, Archie received his Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from NC State College, and returned to his alma mater as a professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department from 1956 to 1962. He then began a distinguished career with Carolina Power & Light Company that lasted until 1981, and continued his association with CP&L as a consultant following his retirement.
Archie especially enjoyed spending time with his many friends at White Memorial Presbyterian Church, the society of Professional Engineers of North Carolina, and the Cypress of Raleigh Retirement Community.
Archie and his wife, Jane Roberts Futrell, have a combined family of six children: Julie Gaddy (Phil), Archie Futrell III (Betty), Elizabeth Lambert (Michael), John "Chuck" Rogers, Michael Rogers (Carey) and Rob Rogers (Genia), as well as 14 grandchildren.
If you would like to remember Archie with a memorial gift, the family is supporting White Memorial Presbyterian Church's Middle-East Peacemaking Ministry. You may address your donation to Capital Community Foundation at P.O. Box 18902 - Raleigh, NC 27619.
