Arnold T. Drooz passed away on October 18, 2012, at the age of 90. He had a lifelong passion for nature that started on Boy Scout wilderness trips and led to a career as a research entomologist. He studied methods of biological control for forest pest insects, primarily with the U.S. Forest Service. He published extensively, and traveled to Asia, South and Central America, the former Soviet Union, and Europe with his work.
He shared his love of travel, the outdoors, gardening, and literature with his wife of almost 50 years, Dorothy Drooz, who passed away in 2001. His community of friends included Forest Service colleagues, fellow Unitarian congregants, and people across the globe.
Arnold was born in Albany, NY, November 17, 1921. He served in the Philippines in the Army Air Force in World War II. After the war he returned to Syracuse University and earned a masters degree. Arnold is survived by two sons, Alain Drooz of Vienna, VA, and David Drooz of Raleigh, NC, and by five grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Raleigh at 2:00 pm on Sunday, November 4.
Donations in his memory may be made to the Arts Guild of Old Forge of his beloved Adirondacks www.ViewArts.org.
