Art, known to many as “Skipper”, was born on September 12, 1941 in Portchester, NY. He graduated from Oak Ridge Military Academy and St. Andrews College. Always up for an adventure, his life was punctuated by many wonderful trips and adventures with his family and he relished each and every one.
Art is preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Barber Moffitt and father, Arthur deLoss Sickles.
He is survived by his daughters, Elizabeth Sickles Wheeler and Martha Sickles Sanders, both of Raleigh, and their husbands Philip Johnston Wheeler and John Charles Sanders, as well as by his 5 grandchildren, Margaret Elizabeth Wheeler of Charlotte, Philip Johnston Wheeler, Jr of Norfolk, Andrew Russell Wheeler of Denver and Anna Elise Sanders and Martha Thomas Sanders of Raleigh. He is also survived by his brother and best friend, Richard Winfield Sickles of Winston-Salem and his sister, Elizabeth Sickles McCann of Charlotte.
A service will be held at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, 100 E. Peace St., Raleigh on Sunday, April 24th at 2:00 pm.
