She was born on July 28, 1935, in Listonburg, Pennsylvania. After graduating, Betty moved to Washington, D.C., where she worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation. She later chose to leave her career to devote herself fully to raising her family, a role she embraced with love and dedication. Once her children were grown, she returned to the workforce, spending many years at the Magic Corner in downtown Raleigh before retiring.
Betty was a longtime amateur radio operator with the call sign KE4NGM. She was a proud member of the Raleigh Amateur Radio Society and an avid participant in the morning Possum Trot Net, where she formed lasting friendships and was a familiar and welcome voice on the air.
Meme will be remembered for her kindness, her strength, and the care she showed to those around her. She touched many lives and will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her. Her legacy lives on in the stories shared, the lessons she taught, and the love she gave so freely.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard Orander.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law: Richard (Dick) Orander Jr. and his wife Connie of Cary, North Carolina; Robert (Rob) Orander and his wife Kaye of Raleigh, North Carolina; and Joe Orander and his wife Pam of Asheville, North Carolina; as well as her cherished grandson, Grady. She is also survived by her brother, John Rosenberger and his wife Betty of Mt. Clare, West Virginia, and her sister, Donna Chellini and her husband Dan of North Huntingdon, Pennsylvania.
A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at 2:00pm in the Mausoleum Chapel at Raleigh Memorial Park. Prior to the service, the family will receive visitors, beginning at 1:00pm.
