Carl John Denton

Carl J. Denton, 88, of Raleigh, died on March 14, 2018. He was born on October 24, 1929 in Elizabethtown, New York. He retired from the United States Marine Corps in July of 1972 with 24 years of service. During his service, he fought in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He went on to become a brake mechanic in the trucking industry, retiring from Ryder in 1996.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, John Denton and Ruth Pooler; his wife, Margaret Lefler Denton; his daughter, Patsy Godwin; and great grandson, Joby Brock Godwin of Dunn. He is survived by his sons, Michael Denton and wife, Ana of Bradenton, FL, and Melvin Lefler and his wife, Kathie of Raleigh; son-in-law Joe Godwin, of Dunn; grandchildren, Chad Lefler, Joby Godwin, Jeanelle Lefler, Summar Shirley, Traci Hall, Michael Denton Jr., Melanie Truong and Alyssa Denton; and great grandchildren, Katelynn Shirley, Brentin Shirley, Kortni Godwin, Bradyn Hall, Allyson Hall, Connor Shirley, Knox Fairweather, Leone Truong, and Michael Denton III.

Visitation will be on Sunday, March 18 from 1:00-2:00pm, with a funeral service beginning at 2:00pm at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 300 St. Mary’s Street, Raleigh. Burial will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park
