Christina was born in New Rochelle, New York to Robert and Ellen Sanchez on December 10, 1972. She graduated from North Carolina State University with a degree in business.
Throughout her illness, Christina was constantly researching and striving to learn all she could about her treatment options. Friends (and even strangers from her online groups) have shared similar stories of Christina taking time to educate and comfort them through their own diagnoses. Christina never missed the chance to remind others of the importance of being their own healthcare advocate.
While cancer unfairly consumed a good portion of her last years, we will not let it define her. Instead, we choose to remember her witty humor and contagious laughter, the way her eyes lit up every time she saw a dog, the joy she found in live music and the unwavering love and support she showed to her family and friends.
A small sample of Christina’s humor was, while working in her father’s hair salon as a part-time receptionist, she made the statement that, “this job was very easy to get but very hard to get rid of”.
Christina is preceded in death by her mother, Ellen G. Sanchez, and survived by her father, Robert Sanchez; her former husband and friend, Andrew Root; her brother, Scott Sanchez; uncles, William S. Green of Charleston, South Carolina and Jeffrey Sanchez of Miami, Florida; aunt, Brenda L. Sanchez of New York City, New York; cousins, William H. West of Palmer, Alaska; and Martha West Lee of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials may be given to Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation, www.tnbc.org or to METAVIVOR, Metastatic Breast Cancer Research Support and Awareness, www.metavivor.org
