Claude was born in Roxboro NC on June 13, 1928. He graduated from Roxboro High School where he served as class president in 1947. Following graduation he enrolled in Mars Hill College, later transferring to Wake Forest College where he graduated in 1951.
Claude served in the US Air Force for 4 years and was a veteran of the Korean conflict. Soon after returning to the US, he met and married the love of his life, Laura Lowery. Soon thereafter, Claude enrolled in Graduate School at UNC- Chapel Hill, where he received his Masters in Education Administration.
Claude served the state of North Carolina for 34 years as a teacher, principal and as the Director of Textbooks for the Department of Public Instruction.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by a brother and sister.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Laura Lowery Warren; son Glenn and wife Alison of Raleigh; son David of Roswell, Georgia; and two grandchildren Henry and Mary Elizabeth.
Spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, Hank and Mary Beth, brought Claude his greatest joy. He also dearly loved serving and socializing with dear friends at Trinity Baptist Church, where he was a member for almost 55 years.
A Celebration of Claude’s life will be held Saturday, June 9, with family receiving visitors at the church at 10:00 am, followed by an 11:00 am service. The service will be held at Trinity Baptist Church, 4815 Six Forks Rd. Raleigh, NC.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to Trinity Baptist Church or a charity of your choosing would be so special.
