Cliff lived a life full of passion, strength and boundless curiosity for the world around him. He was a true outdoorsman at heart – whether casting a line into water at sunrise, pedaling a mountain bike along forest trails, or simply pausing to listen to the wind through the trees. He found peace and joy in nature’s quiet moments. Fishing was more than a hobby for him; it was his therapy, sanctuary and his peace.
Cliff was also an accomplished Jiu-jitsu martial arts expert who competed in Muay Thai regional tournaments. Through his Jiu-jitsu training he learned to foster self-discipline, focus, and inner strength. He also developed many friendships in the martial arts community.
Cliff leaves behind a family who loved him deeply, friends who enjoyed being with him, and a world better from his presence. Though his time was short, his spirit was mighty and will live in every crashing wave, every mountain breeze, and every sunrise. We will miss him more than words can express and forever remember his endearing smile. We know he is now at peace – somewhere wild, free, and beautiful.
Cliff is survived by his father and mother, Steven and Marlene Gunderson and his sister Christy Edwards and brother-in-law Casey Edwards, all residents of Raleigh, NC.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 29, 2025, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service beginning at 1:00 pm. To honor Cliff's passion for fishing, funky socks and fishing themed attire is encouraged.
