On December 29, 2024, Cody Ann Watkins lost her hard-fought battle with cancer, leaving this world with one less angel. Her legacy is the example she set for those who were lucky enough to be in her life—a life defined by selflessness, kindness, and generosity. Nicknamed Sunshine Ann years ago when she worked as a receptionist, she focused her time and energy on helping others without asking anything in return. Need a ride somewhere? Ann would get you there. Kitchen a wreck after a party? Ann to the rescue. Babysitter needed? You could plan on Ann. In a world where relationships come and go, she maintained close family ties and deep, decades-long friendships. She was an inspiration to all—magnified further by her grace as she quietly dealt with the burden of her illness while dedicated to alleviating burden for those she loved. She was a humble hero—never expecting praise but always deserving it.
And she was fun! She enjoyed trips to the beach and White Lake with her pals, spending time with family, old sitcoms, country music, frozen Coke, driving wherever the day would take her, and her young grandchildren’s hugs, kisses, and milestones.
Now reunited with her beloved mother and father, the late Ruby and R.W. Watkins, Ann leaves behind a large and close-knit family that includes her 3 children and their spouses: Ronald and Amie Watkins, Donald and Melissa Watkins, and Tammy and Danny Christian; her brothers Connie and Robin Watkins; 13 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and many other family members whose lives she’s touched.
On January 18 at 1 pm, Ann’s children will hold a celebration of her life at 525 3rd Street, Spring Hope, NC 27882. All who knew and loved her are welcome.
