Our beloved Concetta “Connie” (nee DiFederico) Percoco, 100, passed away peacefully at the family home in Jupiter, Florida on April 3, 2018. Connie was born and raised in Akron, Ohio and was the daughter of Anthony and Anna DiFederico. She attended North High School and studied for two years at Akron University before graduating from Kent State University in 1939.
Connie had a natural gift for teaching. She taught at Fairlawn Elementary, Crouse Elementary, and Jennings Schools for 35 years. On her 100th birthday celebration last year, many of her former students sent their greetings and thanks all these decades later for being an exceptional teacher and positive influence in their lives. Her love and talent for teaching touched so many.
When she retired from teaching, Connie remained busy with the Akron Woman’s City Club and was a member of St. Hilary’s Catholic Church. She was an enthusiastic traveler, avid needle pointer, card player and theater goer. A proud native of Akron, Connie moved to Raleigh, North Carolina in 2008 to be near her family. She was one of the first residents at The Cypress of Raleigh, where she lived for almost 10 years and where she made many good friends.
She was married to fellow Akron resident Frank Percoco in 1947. He preceded her in death in 1973 after 26 happy years of marriage. Also preceding her in death was her infant granddaughter Lauren Buckley, in 1988. Connie's two brothers Mario and John DiFederico and sister Jennie Fatica, also preceded her in death. She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted daughter Frances Buckley (Son-In-Law Tim); four wonderful grandchildren Anne Buckley Kirby (Chris), Christina Buckley, Timothy Buckley and Kevin Buckley, along with sister-in-law and friend for over 70 years Jean DiFederico. She is also survived by nieces Nancy (DiFederico) Joyce, Martha (DiFederico) Friedman, and Janet (DiFederico) Koscik: nephews Jon Fatica, Alfred Fatica and Anthony DiFederico, William Carr and Robert Carr. Connie loved her family and friends more than anything on this earth, and we were all so blessed to have her in our lives.
The family will receive visitors at a reception on Sunday, April 8 from 4 to 5:30 pm at the Cypress Club of Raleigh, 8801 Cypress Lakes Dr., Raleigh, North Carolina 27615, and on Monday, April 9 at 9:30 am at the Sacred Heart Church, 200 Hillsborough St., Raleigh, North Carolina 27603 preceding a funeral Mass at 10:30 am. A Christian burial will be held at a later date in Akron, Ohio.
