JC began his professional journey working for Remington Rand, where he repaired typewriters with precision and care. His career was briefly paused when he answered the call to serve his country during World War II. Enlisting in the United States Marine Corps, JC served with honor in the Pacific Theater and achieved the rank of Corporal. His time in the Marines remained a source of pride throughout his life. After the war, JC returned to Remington Rand before transitioning into education. He brought his technical expertise to the classroom by teaching typewriter repair in the North Carolina school system in Garner. His work helped equip countless students with practical skills during a time when such knowledge was essential.
JC shared 60 devoted years of marriage with his beloved wife Louise before her passing. Together they built a loving home filled with warmth and laughter.
He is survived by his two daughters, Faye Littlewood and husband Barry, and Angela Smith; and one grandson, Jacob Smith.
He was preceded in death by his wife Louise; his siblings Elsie Mae Chester, Lee Stubblefield, Roy Stubblefield, and Peggy Flinchum; and his parents Early William Stubblefield and Geneva (Holt) Stubblefield.
A man of many interests and talents, JC found joy in bowling, hunting, gardening, and cooking. He had an enduring love for classic western films—his favorites included performances by Gabby Hayes, Gene Autry, John Wayne, and Robert Mitchum.
Those who knew JC remember him as someone who radiated kindness and calm. He had an uncanny ability to soothe even the most restless baby within minutes—a gift that endeared him to many. With a twinkle always present in his eye and a sharp sense of humor at the ready, JC brought lightness wherever he went. As a father he was unwaveringly supportive and never judgmental—a steady presence through all of life’s seasons.
