Cindy was born on July 18, 1953, in Minnesota to Evelyn and Charles Vanhouse. She grew up in Austin, Minnesota, where she attended Austin High School, graduating in 1971. She went on to attend Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, graduating in 1975 with a bachelor's degree in special education - an early reflection of her compassionate heart and lifelong care for others.
In 1976, Cindy moved to Boca Raton, Florida, where she began her successful career with IBM. Over the next 13 years, she held various roles within the company, starting in administration, building trainings, and into management. In 1989, Cindy accepted what would become her most important and cherished role: CEO of the Cimino family, a position she carried out with love, dedication, and grace.
Cindy later made her home in Raleigh, North Carolina, where she spent more than 30 years building a life centered on family, faith, and love. Her faith was a steady and guiding force throughout her life. She lived her beliefs through kindness, service, humility, and a deep trust in God, offering comfort and reassurance to everyone around her.
Cindy adored her husband, Richard “Dick.” Cimino. The two were inseparable - true little lovebirds - sharing a deep and devoted partnership filled with love, dedication, laughter and companionship.
She was a devoted mother to her two sons, Christopher “Chris” and Matthew “Matt” Cimino, and a proud and loving grandmother to her cherished grandchildren: Joy, Banks, Palmer, Henry, Harvey, and Fiona. Being “Grandma” was one of her greatest joys, and her love for her family was constant, generous, and unwavering. Cindy was always giving encouragement to her family in thoughtful ways, often daily, with "You can do all things through Christ who strengthens” or “you can do anything you set your mind to”.
Cindy will be remembered for her gentle presence, her kindness, her encouraging words, and the way she made everyone feel welcomed and cared for.
Cindy loved the Lord even spoke of how she looked forward to meeting Jesus face to face - she is now most certainly in heaven.
“The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.” Numbers 6:24–26
The family will hold a private Memorial Service at Raleigh Memorial Park.
