Daisy Byrd Smith

She is survived by her daughter, Pam Brown, brother, Tim Byrd and wife, Betty, sister-in-law, Virginia Byrd, nephews; Steve Byrd and wife, Sandra, Tim Byrd and wife, Theresa, Patrick Byrd and wife, Pinda, Willie Byrd and wife, Stacey, great-nephews; Luke Byrd, Sam Byrd, Thomas Byrd, Chris Byrd, great-nieces, Rachel Byrd and Kelly Byrd. Daisy is preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Graham Smith, brother, Joe Dan Byrd, great-niece, Lydia Gray Byrd.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the compassionate and caring staff of Hospice of Wake County.

A funeral service will be held, Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at 2p.m., Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 300 St. Mary's St., Raleigh, N.C. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service. Burial will immediately follow at Montlawn Memorial Park, Raleigh. Flowers are welcome or memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Hospice of Wake County, Wake County SPCA, or Highland United Methodist Church.

Daisy was an avid animal lover who enjoyed spoiling the neighborhood cats and dogs, along with the wildlife in her own backyard. She especially loved her "grand pets" – "Sasse," the devoted little angel dog who never left her side; "Moonbeam," the dove who sang sweet songs to her every day; and the mischievous kitty "Mr. T," who charmed her with his acrobatic antics. She was loved by all of the neighborhood pets, and it was her great joy to shower them with treats and attention.

Daisy was determined that her final days be a happy time. Thank you to all of the countless family members and friends who surrounded her and her beloved daughter Pamela with so much love and support these last few months. She was secure in her faith and did not want this to be a time of sadness.
