Dennis Glenn Smith

Dennis Glenn Smith, 67, of Smithfield, NC, passed away Thursday, September 25, at Rex Hospital in Raleigh, NC following a sudden and brief illness. He was born in Goldsboro, NC on March 10, 1958 to the late Glenn and Christine King Smith of Princeton, NC.

Dennis attended Princeton High School and enlisted in the US Navy in 1976 where he served 4 years and completed his high school diploma. He served his naval career in San Diego, CA, the Philippines, and aboard the West Coast aircraft carrier, the USS Constellation. Upon returning home, he attended Johnston Community College in Smithfield, NC, where he received an Associates Degree in Computer Technology. He worked at Northern Telecom in Research Triangle for many years. During this time, he earned his BS Degree in Computer Systems at Wesleyan University in Rocky Mount, NC. His love of JCC led him to employment with the State Community College System where he retired in 2023.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother who died at birth, and a niece, Amy Christina Rose. He is survived by a sister, Janet Smith, of Four Oaks, NC, and many beloved cousins scattered near and far.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at Raleigh Memorial Park, 7501 Glenwood Avenue in Raleigh, NC. at 1:00 P. M. on Monday, October 6, 2025
