

Derek Andrew Kingman, 58, passed through the gates of heaven June 6, 2024 at Duke Hospital with his family by his side. He was born June 3, 1966 in Winston-Salem to Joyce and Barry Kingman. He was a resident of Winston-Salem for most of his life, while only recently realizing his dream of moving to Groundhog Mountain in Virginia. A dream cut short by cancer.
Derek will always be lovingly remembered by those that survived him. He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Debbie and Ken Bigley of Raleigh; his brother and sister-in-law David and Carolyn Kingman of Wilmington; five nephews and nieces – Kyle Bigley, Kevin Bigley, Sarah Kingman, Olivia Kingman, and Nicholas Kingman; and a host of family and friends who will also always lovingly remember him.
His parents, Joyce and Barry Kingman, preceded him in death.
After Derek’s four years of service in the United States Navy, he served an additional four years in the Navy Reserves. Per Derek’s wishes, his ashes have been scattered at sea by his family.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday, July 26 at 2 pm at Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh, NC. The service will be live streamed and can be viewed through this link https://www.youtube.com/@MitchellFuneralHomeatRMP
