Michael Duncan McManus, born December 10, 1964, passed away peacefully after a difficult battle with pneumonia on April 27, 2017. He was 52 years old. His loving wife, Hadley Peacock McManus, was with him. They had just celebrated their 21st wedding anniversary. For the past two and a half years, Duncan had battled leukemia and beat it with the help of his incredible Bone Marrow Transplant team at UNC Lineberger Cancer Center.
Duncan was born in Las Vegas, NV, but his parents, Sam and Peggy McManus were from North Carolina, and brought the family back home to Raleigh, NC, when he was young, where Duncan spent the rest of his life. He went to Enloe High School and NC State University, eventually earning a degree in Engineering. He was a die -hard NC State Wolfpack Fan, just like his parents, and some of his happiest moments were spent tailgating with Hadley and friends before the football games.
Many of his days during childhood through adulthood were spent fishing, either sneaking onto the golf course in Country Club Hills or piloting his dad’s boat out of Harker’s Island at the coast. Duncan also loved building things and tinkering. He completed many home improvement projects.
Duncan worked at Redox Tech, a small environmental remediation firm based in Raleigh. Duncan worked on many projects nationwide and loved his job and thought of his coworkers almost as he would family.
Duncan leaves behind a wonderful group of friends, many of whom can be found any given night playing trivia at Sammie’s. He also leaves behind a family who loved him for his steady thoughtfulness and wry sense of humor. He is survived by his wife, Hadley Peacock McManus and their faithful dog Andy; his mother, Peggy McManus; his sister, Kellie McManus Hamilton and her husband Randy; his sister Ivy McManus Dillon and her husband AW; devoted aunt Jane Brown and husband William, and his nieces, nephews and cousins, all of whom he loved and who loved him.
