Eddie Ruth Lovell

After 78 years, Eddie Ruth Lovell left her temporal family to be with her heavenly one on June 23, 2011. Born on March 30, 1933 in Jamestown, Tennessee; she was the daughter of the late James York and Zonie Matthews.

In her early years, Eddie played AAU basketball. She engaged in a successful career within the mortgage industry in Fayetteville and Raleigh for over 30 years. While in Fayetteville, Eddie was recognized as an officer in the AUSA, supporting US Army families both at home and abroad for several years.

She was a vibrant member of Millbrook United Methodist Church, readily volunteering and a fixture at weekly worship services. Always supporting her five grandchildren, Nanny made friends in gymnasiums, car pool lanes, and at graduations across the state.

She is survived by her three children: Lowell Lovell, of Raleigh, Lynda Lovell Sargent and husband Jim, of Wake Forest and Lisa Ridgeway, of Raleigh and Lewis Ridegway, of Seagrove; grandchildren: Lauren and Laura Lynn Lovell, Nish Edgerton, Greyson Sargent and Alexis and Nick Ridgeway; other family and friends.

Eddie was preceded in death by her loving husband of 43 years Buddy Lovell and by her brothers and sisters.

Funeral Services will be held at the Mausoleum Chapel of Raleigh Memorial Park on Monday, June 27, 2011 at 3:00 PM, with family to receive friends following the service.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Eddie’s name can be made to Millbrook United Methodist Church in Raleigh, NC.
