

Dr. Eli John Attayek, age 87, of Raleigh, NC, passed away Monday, February 14, 2022 after a brief illness. Eli was born March 4, 1934 in Greensboro, NC, to the late Alice Yazbeck and Peter Joseph Attayek.
Eli attended grade school and high school in Greensboro and then attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill graduating with a with a B.S of Dentistry in 1956, and a Doctorate of Dental Surgery in 1959. Dr. Attayek served on the faculty at the UNC School of Dentistry and spent his Dental career at Dorothea Dix Hospital as the inpatient Dentist for over 28 years.
While at school in Chapel Hill, Eli met the love of his life, Susan Stoehr. They were married in November of 1961 and settled in Raleigh, NC.
In addition to his wife, he loved more than anything his son Brian, daughter-in-law Amy and his grandchildren Karli and Parker. Eli was an avid UNC sports fan and was a member of the Rams Club for nearly 60 years. He attended virtually every UNC home basketball and football game, while his health allowed and watched when he was unable to be there in person. He was a true TAR HEEL! Eli was also an avid tennis player. He enjoyed many years of great comradery with his tennis buddies, playing 2-3 days per week up until a few years ago.
Eli was a true southern gentleman whose kindness and generosity showed in all that he did. He loved his extended family including his dear nieces and nephews. He was always willing to lend a listening ear, advice and a cold drink.
Eli passed away on Valentine's Day, joining his precious forever Valentine Susan, who he desperately missed since her passing in 2018. He is survived by his son Brian Attayek, Brian's wife Amy Price Attayek, as well as, his grandchildren Karli and Parker Attayek.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Rex Hospital on 4 West. Their kindness and compassion for Eli in his last days was exceptional.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, February 18, 2022, at 1:00pm at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 11401 Leesville Road, Raleigh, with Msgr. Michael Clay presiding. Burial will follow in Raleigh Memorial Park. Those who wish to pay their respects to Dr. Attayek may do so Thursday, February 17, 2022 from 11:00 - 4:00 at Mitchell Funeral Home.
