Elizabeth Lee Ponton Manning died on May 29 , 2021 at Transitions Life Care after a short illness. Elizabeth was born in Greensboro on February 2, 1944 to Elizabeth and Robert Ponton. She lived in Raleigh all of her life. Elizabeth was a graduate of St. Mary’s College, Meredith College and earned her Masters Degree in English from the University of North Carolina in 1968. Elizabeth was married to Howard E. Manning,Jr. on August 27, 1966.
Elizabeth was a member of Christ Episcopal Church. She was also a member of the Junior League of Raleigh and a full time wife and mother. Elizabeth enjoyed sailing, bridge, needlepoint, Nags Head, Oriental and volunteering at Wake Relief.
Elizabeth is survived by her husband of 54 years, Howard E. Manning,Jr, son Howard E. Manning III, daughter Ana Manning Lee, grandson Manning Lee and her beloved Manning brothers in law, George, Tommy, Isaac and their families.
She is also survived by her brothers, Robert A. Ponton, Jr and wife Jan, and Royster H. Chamblee, Jr.
Her family is grateful for the compassionate care provided by Hayes Barton Pharmacy, Rex Hospital, Rex Rehab and Transitions Life Care.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
