

Elizabeth Rae Meier, age 71, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2013, in Raleigh NC. She was born on July 11, 1941, in Greymouth, New Zealand, beloved daughter of Robert Hamilton Stephen and Kathleen Mary Rosalie Stephen (nee Doak).
She lived in Titahi Bay, New Zealand where she was actively involved in the Surf Club and she was named “Surf Queen”. After graduating from St. Mary’s Catholic School, in New Zealand, Rae became a highly qualified Personal Assistant. She then proceeded to travel the world working in New Caledonia, and Sydney, Australia where she met the love of her life, Robert “Bob” Meier. Rae and Bob then moved to Alexandria, VA where they raised their two daughters Tara and Melissa.
Rae was a loving mother, devoted wife, and true friend, and forever touched so many lives with her warmth, sincerity, and love. While quiet and unassuming, to all who knew her, Rae was an extremely generous, selfless, caring woman who was loved very much. She will be greatly missed.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, Robert Meier, her sister Katy Hughes and by her parents.
Mrs. Meier is lovingly remembered by her son, Peter Fitzgerald of Australia; her daughter, Tara Cage and her husband Jonathan, of Raleigh; her daughter Melissa Wright and her husband, Chan of Chapel Hill and her stepdaughter Beatrice Meier and stepson Guido Meier, both of Switzerland.
She will also be deeply missed by her grandchildren, Carson, Evan, Alexandra, Matthew, Lauren, Kate, Jack, Emily, and Jessica; and her siblings, Linda Malan, Pamela Russell, Michael Stephen, Bryan Stephen and Sara Stephen.
The funeral mass will be held at 3:30 pm on Friday, March 22, at the St. Mary’s Chapel, at the Community of St. Francis of Assisi, 11401 Leesville Road, Raleigh NC. Inurnment will follow in the church columbarium.
Memorial donations can be made to the National Kidney Foundation, in memory of Rae.
